NBA Game Notes (Feb. 5, 2024)
Here are the NBA game notes for games that were played on February 5, 2024.
Cavs Rout Kings
The red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers have won 14 of their last 15 games, the latest a 136-110 rout of the Sacramento Kings. They matched the franchise record for most wins in a 15-game span, last achieved in the 2017-18 campaign (LeBron James’ final season in Cleveland). Cleveland has moved into second place in the Eastern Conference standings, percentage points ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 29 points and dished out five assists, shooting 11-20 from the field with five 3-pointers made. He was not charged with a turnover in a team-high 33 minutes played. Mitchell has scored at least 23 points in each of his last eight games, averaging 29.8 PPG and 8.3 APG with a field goal percentage of 50.9% over that span.
Mitchell received help from Max Strus (22 points, five rebounds, 6-10 on 3-pointers), Jarrett Allen (19 points, seven rebounds, 8-10 field goals), Caris LeVert (17 points, seven assists, six rebounds), and Evan Mobley (11 points, team-high 14 rebounds, seven assists).
Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis recorded his 15th triple-double of the season, tying Nikola Jokic for the league lead. Sabonis scored 12 points (6-9 field goals) to go with game highs of 19 rebounds and 15 assists.
Sabonis is just the third big man (i.e., power forward or center) in NBA history to record at least 15 triple-doubles in a season, joining Nikola Jokic (four times) and Wilt Chamberlain (twice). Overall, he’s the 11th player to accomplish the feat, with a total of 25 instances.
Sabonis extended his career-long double-double streak to 32 games, the second-longest such streak in franchise history. The franchise record of 55 such games in a row is held by Jerry Lucas, a streak which spanned the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons.
Forward Harrison Barnes paced the Kings with 22 points, shooting 8-15 from the floor with six 3-pointers made. Kings guards De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk added 19 and 18 points, respectively.
