NBA Game Notes (May 6, 2026)
Here are the NBA game notes for games that were played on May 6, 2026.
Three Stars
Here are my “three stars” from yesterday’s NBA games, with the “first star” considered the top performer.
First ⭐️
Karl-Anthony Towns scored 20 points to go with game highs of 10 rebounds and seven assists as the New York Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 108-102 to take a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference Semifinals series. Towns shot 6-8 from the field and 7-9 from the free throw line. He also swiped one steal in 27 minutes played.
Second ⭐️
Victor Wembanyama scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds in the San Antonio Spurs’ 133-95 rout of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of their Western Conference Semifinals matchup, knotting the series at one game apiece. Wembanyama went 7-15 from the floor with two 3-pointers made. He also contributed two blocks and one steal in 26 minutes of action.
Third ⭐️
OG Anunoby scored 24 points in the Knicks’ win over the Sixers. Anunoby shot 9-17 from the field with two 3-pointers made. He added five rebounds, a game-high four steals, and one block in 37 turnover-free minutes.
Milestones
The Sixers’ Paul George delivered four dimes, becoming the 64th player in NBA postseason history to reach 500 career assists.
The Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards appeared in his 48th career playoff game, breaking a tie with Kevin Garnett for the most games played in franchise postseason history.
The Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert broke the franchise record for most free throw missed in a playoff game, misfiring on six of his nine attempts. The previous mark of five misses was set by Kevin Garnett on April 28, 2002.
The San Antonio Spurs tied the franchise record for most 3-pointers made in a playoff game with 16, matching previous efforts on June 11, 2013 and April 24, 2026. The Spurs also set a franchise record for most 3-pointers attempted in a playoff game with 39, surpassing their 36 attempts in Game 1 of this series.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 38-point loss is the largest margin of defeat in a playoff game in franchise history. The previous mark of 30 points was set on April 29, 2003 and tied on May 28, 2025.
Streaking
George hit five triples to extend his streak of playoff games with at least one 3-pointer made to 52. It’s the third-longest such streak in NBA postseason history, trailing only runs of 132 and 54 games by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, respectively.
The Knicks’ Jalen Brunson scored 26 points, the 50th consecutive playoff game in which he’s scored at least 15 points. That ties Hakeem Olajuwon (May 22, 1993 to May 2, 1996) for the 15th-longest such streak in NBA postseason history.
The New York Knicks have scored at least 100 points in each of their last 17 playoff games, snapping a tie for the longest such streak in franchise postseason history. The previous mark of 16 straight 100-point playoff games was set from April 19, 1970 to April 9, 1971.
Miscellany
Brunson and the Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey were the night’s leading scorers, each netting 26 points. They were followed by Anunoby (24 points), the Spurs’ Stephon Castle (21), and Towns (20).
Wembanyama was the chairman of the boards, hauling in 15 rebounds last night. Also securing double-digit rebounds were Gobert, the Spurs’ Keldon Johnson, and Towns with 10 apiece.
Towns took home nightly honors in assists, handing out seven helpers. Brunson, the Knicks’ Josh Hart, and Maxey were runners-up with six dimes each.
