NBA Game Notes (Nov. 12, 2022)
Here are the NBA game notes for games that were played on November 12, 2022.
Cool Hand Luka
Luka Doncic tallied 42 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Mavericks to a 117-112 victory over the Blazers. He became just the sixth player in NBA history to record at least four career 40-point triple-doubles:
22 — Oscar Robertson
16 — James Harden
13 — Russell Westbrook
7 — Wilt Chamberlain
6 — LeBron James
4 — Luka Doncic
Doncic and Robertson are the only players to record at least four such games before their 25th birthday.
Doncic has recorded at least 20 points and five assists in each of his first 12 games this season. He’s one of only four players in NBA history to start a season with 12 such games in a row:
Oscar Robertson, 1962-63
Allen Iverson, 2005-06
James Harden, 2017-18
Luka Doncic, 2022-23
Doncic increased his season point total to 412. Only six players have scored more points through their first 12 games of a season (a total of 13 instances):
Wilt Chamberlain (five times)
Elgin Baylor (three times)
Michael Jordan (two times)
Rick Barry
James Harden
Bradley Beal
Trust the Process
The Sixers’ Joel Embiid scored a season-high 42 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out six assists in a 121-109 win over the Hawks. It’s the 10th time he’s recorded at least 40 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a game. The only other player in franchise history to reach that mark is Wilt Chamberlain, who recorded 13 such games with the Sixers.
Embiid shot 14-25 from the field and 13-16 from the free throw line. It’s the 59th time he’s made at least 10 field goals and 10 free throws in a game, tied for the fourth-most such games among active players:
115 — James Harden
103 — LeBron James
100 — Kevin Durant
59 — DeMar DeRozan
59 — Joel Embiid
The Hawks’ Trae Young had 27 points and 11 assists in the loss. He now has 100 career 20-point, 10-assist games, making him the fourth player in NBA history to reach that mark before his 25th birthday:
Oscar Robertson
Isiah Thomas
Chris Paul
Trae Young
Tatum Delivers
With Jaylen Brown sitting out due to injury, Jayson Tatum scored a season-high 43 points and snagged 10 rebounds to power the Celtics past the Pistons 117-108. It was Tatum’s 13th career 40-point game, breaking a tie with John Havlicek for the third-most such games in franchise history:
47 — Larry Bird
21 — Paul Pierce
13 — Jayson Tatum
12 — John Havlicek
It’s the fourth time Tatum has recorded a 40-point, 10-rebound game, the fourth-most such games in franchise history:
29 — Larry Bird
7 — Tom Heinsohn
5 — Paul Pierce
4 — Jayson Tatum
Tatum is just the second Celtic to open a season with 13 straight 20-point games (Kevin McHale, 1986-87), and he’s the first Celtic to reach 400 points through his first 13 games of a season (420).
Lucky 13 for Durant
Kevin Durant scored 27 points on 10-16 shooting from the field as the Nets beat the Clippers 110-95, their fourth win in five games without embattled star Kyrie Irving.
Durant is the sixth player in NBA history to open a season with 13 straight 25-point games (a total of eight instances):
Elgin Baylor, 1961-62
Wilt Chamberlain, 1961-62
Chamberlain, 1962-63
Rick Barry, 1966-67
Michael Jordan, 1987-88
Jordan, 1988-89
Bradley Beal, 2020-21
Kevin Durant, 2022-23
Durant — who was 34 years and 44 days old yesterday — is by far the oldest player in this group. The closest player to him is Bradley Beal, who was 27 years and 213 days old when he accomplished the feat.
The Nets have surrendered fewer than 100 points in each of their last five games. It’s the first time since the 2014-15 season the franchise has recorded at least five such games in a row.
