NBA Game Notes (Nov. 17, 2022)
Here are the NBA game notes for games that were played on November 17, 2022.
Kings Swipe Another Win
De’Aaron Fox scored 28 points — shooting 11-15 (73.3%) from the field — and dished out eight assists to lead the Kings to a 130-112 win over the Spurs. It’s the 10th time this season a player has recorded at least 25 points and five assists in a game without committing a turnover.
Fox is averaging 24.8 PPG and 6.4 APG this season, shooting 55.4% from the field, 37.5% from 3-point range, and 82.3% from the free throw line. He owns the highest field goal percentage by a guard this season.
The Kings have won five consecutive games, matching the franchise’s longest winning streak since the 2004-05 season. They have scored at least 120 points in each of those games. It’s the first time the franchise has recorded at least five consecutive 120-point games in a single season since 1969-70, when they were known as the Cincinnati Royals.
After losing their first four games of the season, the Kings have won eight of their last 10 games. They are just the fifth team in NBA history to go 8-2 or better in their next 10 games following an 0-4 start:
Capital Bullets, 1973-74
Portland Trail Blazers, 1982-83
Dallas Mavericks, 2006-07
Oklahoma City Thunder, 2018-19
Sacramento Kings, 2022-23
Sweet 16 for Durant
The Nets’ Kevin Durant had 35 points and eight rebounds in a 109-107 victory over the Trail Blazers. He became the 19th player in NBA history to reach 26,000 career points. Durant needs 56 points to pass Kevin Garnett and move into 18th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Durant became the sixth player in NBA history to open a season with 16 straight 25-point games (a total of seven instances):
Elgin Baylor, 1961-62
Wilt Chamberlain, 1961-62
Chamberlain, 1962-63
Rick Barry, 1966-67
Michael Jordan, 1988-89
Bradley Beal, 2020-21
Kevin Durant, 2022-23
Durant — who was 34 years and 49 days old yesterday — is by far the oldest player in this group. The closest player to him is Bradley Beal, who was 27 years and 219 days old when he accomplished the feat.
Regardless of when it started, it’s the longest streak of 25-point games in franchise history (ABA seasons included):
16 — Kevin Durant, 2022-23
13 — Julius Erving, 1973-74
13 — Erving, 1975-76
12 — Rick Barry, 1970-71
12 — Durant, 2020-21
12 — Durant, 2021-22
Royce O’Neal recorded his first career triple-double in the win, tallying 11 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists. He clinched the triple-double with a game-winning tip-in with just 0.7 seconds remaining.
Ben Simmons came off the bench for the Nets to produce 15 points, 13 points, and seven assists, making all six of his shots from the field. The last NBA player to come off the bench and record at least 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists without missing a shot from the field was Joe Meriweather on April 11, 1976.
