Julius Erving’s Birthday
On this day in 1950, Hall of Famer Julius Erving was born in Roosevelt, New York. Including his stint in the ABA, Erving was a 16-time All-Star, four-time MVP, and three-time league champion, with career averages of 24.2 PPG and 8.5 RPG in 1,243 games.
Erving is one of only four players in ABA-NBA history to record at least 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 5,000 assists:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Julius Erving
LeBron James
Karl Malone
Erving is the only player to win an MVP Award in both the ABA and NBA. He and Dan Issel are the only players to reach 10,000 career points in each league.
None of Erving’s teams missed the postseason in his 16 professional seasons. He averaged 24.2 PPG and 8.5 RPG in 189 playoff games, figures that matched his career averages in the regular season.
