Greek Streak
On this day in 2020, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo tallied 36 points, 20 rebounds, and six assists in a 112-101 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. It was the fifth straight game in which he recorded at least 30 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists, tying Wilt Chamberlain for the longest such streak in NBA history:
30 PTS, 16 REB, 6 AST
31 PTS, 16 REB, 9 AST
30 PTS, 19 REB, 9 AST
34 PTS, 17 REB, 6 AST
36 PTS, 20 REB, 6 AST
Antetokounmpo’s streak was snapped in his next game, when he recorded “only” 18 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists. He finished the season with 15 30-point, 15-rebound, 5-assist games. No other player since the ABA-NBA merger has recorded more than nine such games in a season.
Antetokounmpo went on to win his second straight MVP Award that season. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year Award, joining Michael Jordan (1987-88) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1993-94) as the only players to win both awards in the same season.
